Trick or Treat!

And their off... that's how Lucy treated trick or treating. She was always the first to the door, always the first to yell trick or treat! and always the first to score candy. She was on a mission. All the videos are of her getting treats. Enjoy!

Sugar High

Lucy was so excited when we got home from hours of Halloween fun last night. She emptied her trick or treat bag onto the table and went through all her treats, helped herself to a few and then proceeded to get naked and run around the house like a crazy person. Then she recapped the night and sang 5 Little Pumpkins. Here is all the nuttiness!

Bobbing for Apples

Ian was asked to bob for apples at Lucy's playgroup Halloween party on Halloween. He agreed to show all the other dad how it was done. Here is the video- Lucy loved seeing him stick his head in the water and was all too happy to help him eat the apple!

Pumpkin Carving

Lucy was so excited about carving pumpkins. She chose to have a happy face carved on the big one, a scary face on the little orange one and a ghost face carved into the little white one. She loved seeing them glowing outside and especially liked that they each "had a top". She says hello to them when she comes and goes from the house and was a bit perturbed that they got a bit dirty when they cut the grass today. Let's hope that she copes with them "disappearing" in a day or two!

First Place!

We went to the Belle View Halloween party last night and Lucy won FIRST PLACE in the Halloween costume. She won a black cat flash light and had no idea what was going on, she was just there to play, visit with friends, go through the "spooky house" and eat treats. She had a great time and Lucy was dragging her heals when it was time to leave, then she challenged us to a race and took off towards home!

BOO at the Zoo

Well, we needed rain. So it rained, and rained and rained. And it almost kept us from going to Boo at the Zoo, but who is going to tell a super-cute 2 year old that she can't go trick or treating at her most favorite of all places? So we went. In the rain. In the pouring rain. And we had a blast. Lucy loved seeing all the costumes and Halloween decorations. She loved getting to walk through a giant Tiger's body that belched and "tooted" all the while. She loved seeing the lions roar, since afterall, they are nocturnal, we usually only get to see them sleeping in the daytime. And she loved the treats! She dressed in her super long, super warm black fur coat and donned ears and whiskers and voila!, she was a cat so that we could keep her warm and dry in all the rain. We can't wait to do it again next year!

Halloween Party

We hosted a Halloween party for Lucy's playgroup friends at our home on Thursday. All the kids dressed up, played "pin the tail on the black cat" and ate treats until they nearly popped. Ronin came as Tigger, Asher as a bumblebee, Andrew and Augustin as monkeys with Jasper as their banana, Makena and X as pumpkins and Lucy and Aurelia were ladybugs. Lucy was so excited before the party started that she just kept jumping and yelling "party, party, party!" in a similar style as "toga, toga, toga" from Animal House.

Probably!

Lucy has started saying "probably" all the time. As in "Daddy's at work, probably" or "those are noodles, probably". It's so funny and so unexpected every time that my only response can be "probably".

Sprinkles and Smiles

Lucy went to her friend Andrew's today to decorate cookies for her Halloween party tomorrow. It seems as though more icing went into her mouth with alternating bites of sprinkles than went on the cookie. At one point Lucy was sucking the icing from the tube and then "drinking" sprinkles straight from the bottle. They followed this up with some splashing in the rain outside. A toddler's dream day!

Rain, Rain...

Lucy was so excited to don her rain boots and rain coat to go to her friend Andrew's house today. Ian thinks she reached a new level of cute in the ensemble, hard to disagree!

Lucy was found hiding behind the couch "talking on the phone" today. What a goof.

Hiding on the potty

Lucy likes to sit on her potty, pull the shower curtain over her and yell "I'm hiding". It's obviously not very hard to find her, but she sure gets a kick out of doing it, nearly every day!

Not so quiet anymore

I dropped Lucy off at school on Monday and then went to her school's book fair to buy a book for her classroom. From all the way down the hall, at least 3 rooms over, I could hear the sweet sounds of our little blond singing "the itsy bitsy spider" at the top of her nasally little voice, complete with no "r"s or "l"s (and solo!). I guess she is over the not-singing-at-school phase. That'll show 'em.

Really, her singing is the best sound ever. I know it runs in the family with her Daddy and Pops singing all the time, but her songs are all her own. She sings songs she learned at school, songs we have sung forever and now she even makes up her own songs. She sings going to sleep at night and sings first thing in the morning. Sweetest sounds in the world.

Climbing on Daddy

Lucy will climb or jump on anything, even her Daddy. Here is a funny clip of her in all her glory.

Pumpkin Patch

We went to the pumpkin patch "out in the country" as Lucy likes to say. She was so excited about the tractor ride and cracked everybody up who rode next to us with all her exclamations such as "Hay!" and "Pumpkins!" and "Very, Very Bumpy!"
She decided on 3 pumpkins, a big orange one, and a little orange on and a little white one. She insisted on helping carry them and told us over and over again that they were "very heaby".
She wrapped up her farm trip with a peeled apple, climbing on haystacks and sitting among pumpkins and singing the entire way home.

Botanic Gardens

We went to the National Botanic Gardens today with Asher, Ronin and Andrew (all of Lucy's boys) and let the kids splash for hours. Lucy also dug a hole, planted a flower and ran through a bamboo maze. She loves it there so hopefully we will get back before it gets too cold!

Bones!

Lucy is loving all the Halloween stuff out and about. She in particular loves all the skeletons or "Bones!" and she exclaims. We found a wooden skeleton for her to paint and decorate and nearly every morning she wakes up, says hello to her skeleton and heads off to breakfast.

She always knows better.

Lucy has decided that whenever we get in the car she knows the way to go. For instance, we turn right onto Fort Hunt every morning to take her to school but every morning she kicks up her heels and yells at me that I am going the wrong way and that I need to go straight. It has gotten a little ridiculous. She gets so mad and so upset. Then half the time she starts yelling that I forgot her "pink bag". That's the bag that we pack when we go on trips.

I think one day I will just give her a few minutes to direct me and then get out of the car in the middle of nowhere to show her that we didn't get anywhere near our final destination. Of course, she will probably be happy with wherever we are just to prove me wrong.

Do you know the muffin man?

Lucy is singing "Do you know the muffin man" nonstop all the time. This is not a song that we sing very often at the house so this morning I asked her music teacher if they sing it at school. She said, "Yes, but Lucy doesn't. She just stands there with her hand in her mouth smiling." I told her that she doesn't stop singing it at home. She replied "I didn't even know Lucy really talked". That's laughable since anyone who knows her thinks that she talks nonstop. Ian actually refers to her "On" button that is pushed every morning and doesn't go off until she is sound asleep. That mouth just keeps going and going and going. I'm sure she'll warm up in music soon, until then, the teacher should enjoy the peace and quiet.

First Moonbounce

We went to Lucy's school's Fall Festival last weekend and Lucy fell in deep love with the moonbounce. It was the first time she was ever put in one and she went wild. She cried when we made her leave because there was a line of kids waiting to get in. Needless to say, she slept like a rock that afternoon! I don't think I could ever get tired of watching her tiny little legs jump up in the air.

Speaking of the moon, she is obsessed with space and the moon, stars, Earth, etc. We checked out a book about astronauts and space from the library and she is convinced that she is going to "go on a rocket" some day. She told me out of the blue the other day that she was going to go in a rocket and that she was going to take "Reggie, Daddy, a jacket and some snacks." Sounds like she's ready to lift off!

Oxon Hill Farm

We went to Oxon Hill Farm with Asher and Ronin the other day and had a blast. Lucy loves showing her friends around the farm and the pig even waddled up to see us today- a farm first! Lucy and I also saw three beautiful stags come running out of the woods, leaping over two farm fences and heading off into another section of woods- that made the trip to the farm worth it all itself!
