It's 10pm, 5 kids asleep. All is so peaceful. Here is how the night really went down:
-one kid whizzed all over the floor in the bathroom. Her reply:"accidents happen!", a big smile and off to leave me to clean up her mess.
Ummm. make that 4 kids asleep- Harper was just found roaming the upstairs looking for a drink and a bathroom break- and another drink.
back to the earlier events...
-Graham digging his heels in because it was his night to choose the movie. Yes, that is correct, but when you are a 2 year old boy who likes to watch Cars and the guests are 6 and 7 year old girls, you lose your choice for the night. He screamed, "it's not fair!" And ran to his room only to resurface less than a minute later with a ridiculous smile and nodding his head that, "I do want to watch a movie with the girls. Lucy can pick. I will choose Nemo- tomorrow. Yes, I will choose Nemo tomorrow. That's ok. I will watch the movie with the girls." And then hugging me and avoiding eye contact for 20 minutes.
-one girl crying because "she doesn't like the way Lucy talks to Harper" This coming from a little sister and not liking how a big sister (Lucy) was talking to her little sister (Harper). My reply: You're right, it's not nice, but Harper IS being a pest and sometimes big sisters aren't very nice to little sisters. to which both Harper and Lucy agreed.
-one girl claiming that she was probably going to fall asleep during the movie (which was not Nemo, but rather Dolphin Tale) and then promptly jumping on the couch and getting out every toy in the basement- so much for sleep!
-One girl coming to me after all were in sleeping bags and off to sleep to tell me, with tears, that she missed her mom. I asked her to give it 10 minutes and then we could call her mom. She was asleep in 5.
-Graham saying to me as we cuddled on the couch at the end of the movie, "Mom, I love you. I don't know why. I just do." And then he burped in my face.
So yes, they are asleep, but I am the one exhausted!
